On December 11, 2018, the International Cultural Center «Syaivo» held a round table upon the First World War and the way it affected Ukraine. The conference’s sessions were devoted to the discussion of the consequences of the First World War for the world, and in particular, for Ukraine, that became one of the largest arenas, where Russian, German and Austro-Hungarian armies fought. Emphasizing the huge human losses caused by the war, the participants of the event also mentioned hundreds of thousands of Galicians, Volhynians and the inhabitants of Chelm Land evacuated to the remote places of Russia. They have also admitted that most of them got no chance to return to their homes. In addition, the speakers considered the issue of the its destroyed infrastructure that dramatically affected the whole Ukraine.
The main speech was delivered by Bohdan Andrusyschyn, PHD in history and the dean of the Faculty of Politology and Law of the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University.
Petro Zakharchenko, PHD in law and professor of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and Ihor Turyansky, the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Turkey, co-founder of the International Cultural Center «Syaivo» also joined the discussion. Experienced guests shared their thoughts on the subject with the students present at the conference.
